Life Coaching

Life coaching is distinct from giving advice, consulting, counseling, mentoring and therapy. A life coach encourages and counsels clients on a range of professional and personal issues. Often a Life Coach is hired to help with a specific professional project, personal goal, or and a life transition.

A Life Coach can help sort out feelings and desires when a person is feeling stuck or confused about a person or professional situation. Some situations in which a Life Coach could be helpful are moving from work to retirement; making the decision to give up one’s home and move in with adult children, or deciding whether or not to take a job promotion.

Unlike a psychotherapist or psychologist, a Life Coach does not work on past-based issues or traumas. The type of client who is most likely to seek the assistance of a Life Coach is healthy, successful, and educated, but feeling a bit stuck, or they simply want to make a big change in their lives and feels the need for support.

Life coaches work with clients one on one or in groups to help them make a successful change in their lives. Typically, the client has a goal they want to achieve and the life coach uses specific skills and strategies to help them achieve it.

Life coaching sessions usually last between 45 minutes and 60 minutes a session (depending on the life coach you choose). Often after an initial assessment, sessions can be conducted face-to-face, over the phone, via email, via Skype and occasionally through instant messaging.

Most mainstream health insurance providers do not cover the costs of Life Coaching. However, if the client has a co-occurring problem such as anxiety or depression due to their situation, insurance will pay for the co-occurring disorder.
